What the Australian Liberal party “Believe” : What they say and what they mean.

10505581_10204669823857245_5573746356349290562_nI was thinking the other day how fortunate (or perhaps unfortunate) I am to be alive in current times. Not only am I part of the generation that gets to witness major changes and advancements – scientific and political, in the efforts to save our planet from the effects of catastrophic climate change, but I will also get to observe the positive and important worldwide economic changes that will revolutionise the way the Global community interacts with itself and its environment.

So, maybe I am a glass half full kind of guy, but one thing for sure is that I am currently baring witness to the awakening of the Australian voting public. The measured realisation that Tony Abbott’s Liberal Government, built on a platform of lies and deceit, is a government that does not believe in community, fairness or compassion, but is openly and obviously solely interested in appeasing those born into wealth and privilege.

An exciting time indeed to see the common man on the street shouting that we will never let this happen again….
In my research into how the Australian people could be so monumentally blindsided into believing the rhetoric spewed from Abbott prior to the last election, only to experience the exact opposite when in power, I stumbled upon the LNP’s official webpage. It was the “Our Beliefs” page that threw me the most….
A prime example of our “what they say and what they mean” feature if there ever was one!

What they say and what they mean.

Our Beliefs

SAY:

We Believe:

In the inalienable rights and freedoms of all peoples; and we work towards a lean government that minimises interference in our daily lives; and maximises individual and private sector initiative.

MEAN:

We Believe:

10427333_10204669824817269_7922249428085193354_nIn the inalienable rights and freedoms of all people who can afford them; and we work towards an impotent government that minimises regulation and legislation to the benefit of big business’s daily lives; and maximises the ability of the private sector to rape and pillage the environment and reduce the rewards and rights of those who deserve to serve them.

SAY:

We Believe:

In government that nurtures and encourages its citizens through incentive, rather than putting limits on people through the punishing disincentives of burdensome taxes and the stifling structures of Labor’s corporate state and bureaucratic red tape.

MEAN:

We Believe:

In government that nurtures and encourages its privileged citizens through subsidy and tax loop holes, while burdening the less advantaged with unattainable education costs, a taxed health system and a stifling welfare system that creates a potential generation of homeless citizens…. All while cutting red tape.

SAY:

We Believe:

In those most basic freedoms of parliamentary democracy – the freedom of thought, worship, speech and association.

MEAN:

We Believe:

10409050_10204669825177278_6707086184579295316_nIn those most basic freedoms of parliamentary democracy – the freedom of thought: as long as those thoughts are in line with those of the Murdoch presses, worship: provided that you worship the white middle-eastern Jesus that “Knew that there was a place for everything and it’s not necessarily everyone’s place to come to Australia” (sic), Speech: The freedom to vilify anyone you see fit, as we are legislating the right to be a bigot, and association: as long as that association doesn’t involve 2 or more men who ride Harley Davidson motorcycles.

SAY:

We Believe:

In a just and humane society in which the importance of the family and the role of law and justice is maintained.

MEAN:

We Believe:

In a unjust and inhumane society unless you are a member of the traditional Christian family consisting of a man and a woman committed to a lifetime of conceiving and rearing children, where the role of law and justice is to maintain the lack of decent resulting in ideal conditions for our wealth creation.

SAY:

We Believe:

In equal opportunity for all Australians; and the encouragement and facilitation of wealth so that all may enjoy the highest possible standards of living, health, education and social justice.

MEAN:

We Believe:

1509833_10204669825577288_5891900622062205067_nIn opportunity for some and a distinct lack of the same for the majority of Australians; and the facilitation of wealth for those ‘lifters’ who already have it so that they may enjoy the highest possible profits possible, while offering the lowest allowable standards of living, health, education and social justice to the rest of the ‘leaners’.

SAY:

We Believe:

That, wherever possible, government should not compete with an efficient private sector; and that businesses and individuals – not government – are the true creators of wealth and employment.

MEAN:

We Believe:

That, wherever possible, government should allow the private sector to degrade working conditions; And that businesses and individuals – not government – are the true creators of their personal wealth, while their employees penalty rates are withdrawn and minimum wages are abolished.

SAY:

We Believe:

In preserving Australia’s natural beauty and the environment for future generations.

MEAN:

We Believe:

In preserving the rights of the mining industry to rape and destroy Australia’s natural beauty and the environment – leaving future generations the task of dealing with catastrophic climate conditions.

SAY:

We Believe:

That our nation has a constructive role to play in maintaining world peace and democracy through alliance with other free nations.

MEAN:

We Believe:

That our nation has a counter constructive role to play in maintaining world peace by waging inhumane wars on poorer countries that may have resources that we need, through alliance with other war mongering capitalists hell bent on eco-cidal self-destruction.

SAY:

In short, we simply believe in individual freedom and free enterprise; and if you share this belief, then ours is the Party for you.

MEAN:

In short, we simply believe in the lack of individual freedom and uncontrolled free enterprise at any cost; and if you share this belief, then ours is the Party for you.

Before I conclude, I couldn’t help but comment on the “Our Beliefs” final statement with some ‘tongue in cheek’ constructive criticism.

In Short’? You are the Government of our country and as such have well thought out and constructed policy’s designed for the betterment of the Australian people. ‘In Short’ is not an applicable term when describing what you stand for. If you are truly passionate about your positions and are keen to convince us of their validity, we would appreciate as much information as is possible…. ‘In long’ would be more apt.
